The Eggless Marking System
The regulatory mark answers “is this vegetarian”. The lozenge answers “was this baked without egg, on separate equipment” — a commercial promise, not a legal one. Both appear; they are never conflated.
1. The Three Marks at Real Physical Scales
| Scale | Mark 1: Vegetarian (Legal) | Mark 2: Contains Egg (Legal) | Mark 3: EGGLESS (Kitchen Promise) |
|---|---|---|---|
| SM (3 mm) 3 mm — Absolute reproduction minimum for flexo labels. | VegMark (3mm) | NonVegMark (3mm) | EgglessLozenge (3mm) |
| MD (5 mm) 5 mm — Default standard for retail packaging and menus. | VegMark (5mm) | NonVegMark (5mm) | EgglessLozenge (5mm) |
| LG (8 mm) 8 mm — Hero display on shipping boxes and bulk trays. | VegMark (8mm) | NonVegMark (8mm) | EgglessLozenge (8mm) |
Minimum Reproduction Rule: 3 mm
The regulatory triangle and inner square must never be reproduced smaller than 3 mm. Below 3 mm, flexographic ink spread fills in the apex of the triangle, violating FSSAI legibility guidelines.
